The Sustainability Initiative of the Year category recognises meaningful sustainability action across the adhesives and sealants industry. It celebrates initiatives that go beyond intention and demonstrate real progress — whether through environmental improvement, resource efficiency, emissions reduction, or more sustainable practices and decision‑making.
This category is designed to reflect the diversity of sustainability journeys across the BASA membership. Entries may range from focused, practical improvements to broader strategic initiatives, provided they show clear purpose, delivery and impact.
Who should enter?
You should consider entering if your organisation has delivered a sustainability initiative within the last 18 months that:
- Forms part of a broader environmental or sustainability approach
- Has been actively implemented, not just planned
- Has delivered, or is clearly expected to deliver, measurable or demonstrable benefits
The category is open to BASA member organisations of all sizes, including:
- Manufacturers
- Distributors
- Raw material suppliers
Initiatives may relate to (but are not limited to):
- Net zero or carbon reduction programmes
- Decarbonisation, energy efficiency or emissions measurement
- Sustainable materials, formulations or process changes
- Waste reduction, circularity or resource efficiency
Both incremental improvements and more transformational initiatives are welcome.
What the judges are looking for
Your entry will focus on:
- Sustainability commitment and context — how the initiative fits within your overall approach
- The initiative itself — what was done, why, and how it was delivered
- Impact and future value — the outcomes achieved and how benefits will continue over time
Judges are particularly interested in credibility and clarity: why the initiative matters, what changed as a result, and how it contributes to the long‑term sustainability of your organisation and the wider industry.
How to prepare your entry
Before completing the application, it may help to:
- Clarify the sustainability challenge or opportunity the initiative addresses
- Gather data, targets, certifications, reductions or examples of outcomes
- Reflect on how the initiative supports longer‑term environmental goals
- Consider its relevance to customers, the supply chain or industry best practice
Judges value honesty, evidence and practical delivery. Ambition is important, but real action — and learning from it — is what stands out most.
