Prof Kevin Kendal FRS expounds contact mechanics.

University of Glasgow (tel 0141 330 2000)
Prof Mike Cowling studies the adhesive bonding of ships.

Imperial College, London, Mechanical Engineering Department (tel 020 7594 7082)
Professor Tony Kinloch’s interests include fatigue and durability of adhesive joints.

Loughborough University
In the Mechanical Engineering Department (tel 01509 228397) Dr Ian Ashcroft specialises in mechanics and stress analysis of joints
In the Institute of Polymer Technology and Materials Engineering (tel 01509 222 949) Dr Gary Critchlow studies surface analysis, Dr Ralf Dahm and Dr Derek Brewis study surface treatment of polymers, Dr Ali Ansarifar studies bonding to rubber and Dr John Comyn is interested in curing and crosslinking of adhesives and sealants.

Manchester Metropolitan University (tel 0161 247 1416)
Dr Claudius D’Silva is interested in adhesive bonding to leather, particularly in army boots.

Oxford Brookes University, Joining Technology Research Unit (tel 01865 741111)
The department is headed by Prof Allan Hutchinson and has two eminent visiting professors; Bob Adams, who has recently retired from the Mechanical Engineering Department at Bristol University and has worked extensively on the mechanics of adhesive joints, and Keith Allen

Queen Mary College, London (tel 020 7882 7542)
