Reaction to Government’s Brexit strategy position paper

30 August 2017

There have been mixed reactions to the Government’s recent Brexit strategy position paper on future customs arrangements. The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) welcomed the explicit commitment to maintaining high environmental standards post-Brexit. But the Chemical Industries Association (CIA), representing chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturers, has criticised the Government for making the full transition to Brexit unnecessarily complex.

The Government has published its latest Brexit paper and says that it: “will continue to maintain our high standards for consumers, employees, the environment and animal welfare”.

The statement has been welcomed by CIWM chief executive, Dr Colin Church, who said: “It is one brief point among many but CIWM welcomes the Government’s explicit commitment to maintaining high environmental standards in the new Brexit position paper published yesterday.
