EADs will continue to be valid as a basis for UKTA/UKCA

17 December 2021

Over the last weeks, EOTA reached agreements with both the European Commission and the British government that will allow the continued use of EADs in the British market. The arrangement will allow manufacturers to continue relying on EADs as a basis for their UK Technical Assessment (UKTA) and the associated UK Conformity Assessment (UKCA) also after 31 December 2021. The prerequisite is that the EAD has been cited in the Official Journal of the European Union.

UKTA bodies wishing to use EOTA documents for their assessments need to become observers of EOTA and sign the corresponding cross-licensing agreement. The BBA obtained observer status already at the beginning of 2021. EOTA expects the accession procedures for former UK TABs and current UKTA bodies to be finalised very early in 2022. The common goal of EOTA and its UK partners is to keep the assessment methods applicable in both markets closely aligned, if not identical, and avoid duplication of effort.
